Some skins are simply too pretty to leave behind. And sometimes, when every Linden dollar goes to a cause you believe in, your shopping restraint becomes remarkably negotiable.
Meet Rose, one of the gorgeous faces in the Botanica Bakes-on-Mesh gacha by AlaskaMetropolitan, available at the Spoonful of Sugar festival, benefiting Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders).
I fell for Rose immediately. Her soft features, delicate colouring and those beautifully understated lips had me feeding the gacha machine with considerably more enthusiasm than financial discipline. Some L$5,000 later, I finally landed one of the rare fatpacks, which includes the combined face and body skin and a no-makeup version. The commons, meanwhile, feature the prettiest makeup variations, so even my unsuccessful attempts were rather lovely.
The only concession I made was to wear the browless version of Rose, so I could use my trusty Noelle eyebrows by Nuve. As beautiful as the original brows are, I simply couldn’t get them to work with my face and brow shape. Some things are too personal to compromise on, and eyebrows, apparently, are one of them.
And before anyone questions my spending habits, 100% of the proceeds go to Doctors Without Borders. I consider that an entirely respectable justification for losing all self-control in front of a gacha machine.
Since Rose had already won me over, I headed straight to AlaskaMetropolitan’s booth at Spoonful of Sugar to pick up the Virgo makeup set. That glossy peach eyeshadow I’m wearing? Completely in love. I also paid Izzie’s booth a visit for the Holly moles, adding a few tiny beauty marks that give Rose just a little more character without taking anything away from her gorgeous skin.
With all that attention on the face, I kept the rest of the look decidedly casual. The oversized Football Jersey by COCO Designs and my trusty Monaco jeans by ISON make for an easy, slightly tomboyish combination. My luscious locks are Admire by Magika, and those green eyes are Sunshine by Midori.
There is something rather wonderful about a shopping event where indulging yourself can genuinely do some good for someone else. And if that means I now own an unreasonable number of beautiful Rose skins, well, I can live with that.
