There are days when you put together an outfit, do your hair, make sure the face is behaving, and head out feeling reasonably pleased with yourself. And then your chicken turns up wearing pearls, lace, rings and eyelashes that are frankly better than yours. I would like to say I took this well.

I was going for something decidedly more relaxed. The Saga knit sweater from Boys To The Bone is loose, slouchy and striped in a slightly bonkers collection of colours that somehow work beautifully together. I love it slipping off one shoulder, especially with the Monaco straight-leg jeans from ISON. The jeans keep all that colourful knitting grounded, while the Ranch Boots from Mellow Elie add just enough country to make me look as though Henrietta and I might plausibly belong in the same photograph. Although clearly we have very different ideas about appropriate farm attire.

Beauty-wise, I am wearing Lydia by Glam Affair on my beloved LeLUTKA Avalon. Lydia has a beautifully soft face with plenty of definition around the eyes and nose, and I really like how little she needs to look finished. I kept the makeup fairly quiet, adding Utopia‘s Messy Girl mascara and Jack Spoon‘s La Boheme beauty mark for a little extra character. TRUTH‘s Darling hair, long and loosely gathered over one shoulder, works perfectly with the slightly undone sweater and keeps everything soft and casual.
And then there is Henrietta.
Neutral Tones apparently decided that chickens had been excluded from fashion for quite long enough. Henrietta arrived in a lace-trimmed kerchief, pearls and enough rings to suggest she has access to a jewelry box I know nothing about. Then I looked closer and discovered the lashes. Long, curled, magnificent lashes. I am wearing actual mascara and somehow the chicken is still winning.

I can only assume her beauty regime consists of organic grain, regular dust baths, eight uninterrupted hours on the roost and complete indifference to what anyone thinks of her. She has no pores, no bad hair days and apparently no need for an eyelash curler. Worse, she knows exactly how good she looks.
I have the expensive mesh head, the skin, the hair, the makeup and an inventory large enough to require its own search engine. Henrietta has feathers, pearls, lace, fabulous lashes and the confidence to wear all of them while technically naked.
The bitch has range.
XO, Graz
